PerfectWater is built on a foundation that started in early 1983, in Akron, OH. Denis was looking for temporary employment while his wife was finishing college at Kent State University. He was introduced to the owner of a large water-conditioning company and was hired as a sales rep. Sporting a beard and southern accent he was immediately sent to a branch office in rural Amish country. In 1989, their family of six decided to settle in Denis’ hometown of Knoxville, TN.
Denis was immediately back into water conditioning and purification, the business that he loved. He worked hard to begin to build the business, just him and his truck. Demanding excellence, he acquired the highest level of certification awarded in the industry. He built a reputation as the “go to” guy for installations in high-end custom homes and for providing solutions for problem well water.
“It’s the hardships one endures that make you strong and develop your character.”
Tragedy struck in August of 1995, when Denis was in a serious automobile accident. Recovery took about 18 months and came complete with a prosthetic leg to provide mobility due to an above-knee amputation. Denis attributes the pain and loss of these difficult times to much needed personal growth along with strengthening and developing character in all his family. His oldest son Gabriel, still in high school, held the business together during this time. Ask Denis what the big things are in life that helps to produce success and he will probably tell you, “It’s the hardships one endures that make you strong and develop your character.”
Mary, Denis’s wife began to homeschool their first child in second grade and has continued to homeschool for over 28 years. She also teaches advanced Biology classes outside the home and seems always to be enterprising in the community. Bread from freshly ground grain is the norm, at mealtime, along with fresh garden produce. In 1999 the family was finally complete with nine children.
“Our family is humbled to have developed so many friendships among our customers over the years.”
Each of the children have worked in the business part-time through high school.
Gabriel, the oldest, is now a mechanical engineer working for Energy Solutions in Oak Ridge, TN, and lives with his wife in West Knoxville. Maralynn, who is responsible for much of our graphic design, is a professional graphic designer living with her husband and two children in Pittsburgh, PA. Andrea, graduated with honors in accounting from UT, and is now a regional manager for a high-end cosmetic company. She lives with her husband, and four children, in Maryville, TN. Deanna, who spearheaded PerfectWater’s marketing program, is married and lives in Chattanooga with her husband and two children. Sarah is pursuing graphic design and lives with her husband and child here in Knoxville, TN. Jacques is now the production manager at PerfectWater and lives here in Knoxville with his wife and son. Daniel also lives in Knoxville and is head of operations. The two youngest, Ezekiel (18) and Cobren (16), work part time in office administration.
Following recovery from the accident, PerfectWater was formed in 1997 and started out in the barn and an old trailer on the family property. With limited resources and lots of youthful energy to help, the business was launched and enjoyed steady growth for the next 11 years. Many of the company’s customers, the UPS driver, and some of the vendors have watched the family grow up. Denis says, “Our family is humbled to have developed so many friendships among our customers over the years.”
PerfectWater went on to pioneer central water conditioning and purification being integrated into newhome construction. Since the early 2000s, PerfectWater has been clearly recognized as the leader in water treatment throughout the greater Knoxville area: pertaining especially to new, high-end, custom homes.
